Vasa Ski and Bike Trail
The VASA Trail is a non motorized trail that is used primarily for hiking, biking and cross country skiing. This is Michigan's premier, groomed cross county trail and roams through the towering white pines and pristine beauty of the Pere Marquette State Forest. There are numerous access points, with the best being the trail head off of Bartlett Road (Bunker Hill Road in Acme), the Timber Ridge Campground at the end of Hammond and The Rock off of Supply Road. The grooming for skiing is exceptional and the trail is located in a natural snow belt for terrific skiing most of the season.
The trail system is located on the East Side of Traverse City and is easy to get to. Whether you are hiking, biking or skiing, this is something you will not want to miss.
It is also a big part of the Ice Man Bike Race, which is the country's largest point to point race held every November from Kalkaska to Timber Ridge Campground.
The Vasa ski race features loops of 12K, 27K and 50K and is considered one the the best cross country ski races in the country.
From the trail head you can access shorter loops or the entire 27K loop. The 50K loop is not marked and is only accessible for the VASA race.
